We Are (An Advent Poetry Project)

At Faith …

(thoughts from Pastor Laura Norvell who's only been around since 2019)

We are an open table for everyone born and a sending forth rooted in beloved-ness.

We are How Great Thou Art and It Is Well With My Soul, but sometimes we are Betty's Dinner.

We are a Williamsburg sanctuary with nickel altar ware and sparkling, large windows.

We are welcoming, justice seeking, and just a little bit messy.

We are UMCOR and InterFaith Works and an Angel Tree.

We are global disaster relief, and local need, and Christmas presents for our neighbors.

We are choral music and a swelling pipe organ.

We are book studies and the revised common lectionary.

We are outdoor worship and lawn chairs, bugs and traffic noise.

We are grace upon grace and God’s slow but steady work through us.

We are the woman at the well, mixed with jubilee and and Jonah.

We are expanding our embrace and meeting new people.

As we move through Advent and celebrate Christ’s birth,

we are rejoicing that God is with us, then and here and now and forever.
